The Ontario Provincial Police are getting set for another long weekend.
L & A, Central Hastings, Prince Edward, Quinte West, Bancroft, and Northumberland OPP detachments, along with the Belleville Police Service, will be keeping an eye on the waterways and roadways.
Officers will be focusing on aggressive, distracted, and impaired driving, along with seat belt infractions.
They say they will also be looking for those who do not move lanes while officers are working on the shoulder.
So far this year, the OPP has responded to 188 fatal roadway collisions in which 205 people lost their lives,. That is up 15 per cent from last year.
Since 1989, five OPP officers have been killed while on duty on the roadside after their vehicles were struck by approaching vehicles.
