Belleville police responded to 70 calls for service over a 24-hour period from 5 a.m. on July 31, 2023 to 5 a.m. on August 1, 2023.
Possession of Break in Tools and Breach of Release Order
On July 31, 2023 at 7:29 p.m., Belleville police received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a suspicious vehicle that had been circling the downtown core numerous times. Police attended the area and observed the vehicle. The vehicle quickly departed the area before police could conduct a traffic stop. Police continued to search the city for the vehicle and located it in the east end of Belleville near Point Anne. Police stopped the vehicle and conducted an investigation. The driver was identified as a 49-year-old male from Ottawa. Police learned that the male was breaching his court release orders including not to be away from his residence between specified hours and not to be in possession of break-in tools. As a result of the investigation, the male was arrested and charged with two counts of breaching his release orders, possession of break-in instruments, driving while suspended and failing to stop at a red light. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
Assault
On July 31, 2023 at 6:54 p.m., Belleville police attended a residence in the city’s west end regarding an intimate partner disturbance. Upon arrival, police spoke to the involved parties and learned that a 55-year-old Belleville man had assaulted an adult female. As a result of the investigation, the male was arrested and charged with assault. The male was released on an undertaking with a court date in August. The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
