The Wellington Dukes are seeking a sponsorship from Prince Edward County.
During Tuesday’s council meeting, Prince Edward County Council received a presentation from Tealah Clement and Kelly Martin from the Wellington Dukes Hockey Club, outlining the potential benefits of signing Prince Edward County on as a naming sponsor for the team.
Martin proposed that a sponsorship deal with the Wellington Dukes can help promote tourism for Prince Edward County during times when tourism is usually low, and increase how present Prince Edward County is in the media.
“Back in the day before the county was such a popular tourist destination the Wellington Dukes helped put Prince Edward County on the map through multitudes of championships, hundreds and hundreds of young men flowing through our exceptional junior hockey program,” said Martin “Over the years the Wellington Dukes became one of the crown jewels of the Canadian Junior Hockey League, which we continue to be to this day.”
The deal presented was for an annual sponsorship deal, seeking $50,000 of funding in exchange for placing The County’s logos on all their merchandise, uniforms, and branding. For the duration of the sponsorship, the team would become “The County” Wellington Dukes.
Council did not make a final decision on the matter at the meeting, but directed staff to evaluate the proposal and determine if they should proceed.
