A versatile baseball player from Quinte West has been recruited to play in a prep program to move into NCAA ball.
Eighteen-year-old Leland Pynch is both a pitcher and first baseman and can hit a long baseball. Pynch says his ball has a lot of movement, it is not necessarily the fast ball.
California Post Grad has announced they have selected the Trenton resident to join their program.
He was quick to thank the Quinte West Amateur Baseball Association for helping in his development.
Pynch says California Post Grad is a stepping stone from high school to NCAA.
“It’s kind of like the in-between stage for players. Chance to develop to try and get yourself to a higher program at the college level.”
He says he wants to get to the best level he possibly can.
“Honestly, I’d like to just play anywhere. Anywhere that I can both get a good education and be able to actually play some high level baseball.”
Pynch added it’s a newer approach to baseball in the US. He says he was approached by two post grad programs.
“It’s actually a pretty new program. It’s only the first or second year of the program’s lifespan. I’m excited to kind of be involved in a newer program.”
He finished by stating the you are also able to take school classes or programs while in the post grad.
