Members of 2 Air Movements Squadron welcomed their new Commanding Officer with a parade at 8 Wing Trenton Wednesday.
Lieutenant-Colonel Dwayne Demers takes over from Major Cam Mackay.
Lieutenant-Colonel Demers has a strong history with 8 Wing having previously served as the Squadron Operations Officer and Deputy Commanding Officer at 2 Air Movements Squadron starting in 2016. In 2018 he deployed to Operation IMPACT in Kuwait as the Officer Commanding the Mission Support Element before returning to 8 Wing as the Officer Commanding Transportation and Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers Flight. During this period he also served as Acting Commanding Officer for 8 Mission Support Squadron.
LCol Demers has a Bachelor of Social Science from the University of Ottawa, has completed the Joint Command Staff Programme, and holds a Masters of Defence Studies.
2 Air Movements Squadron supports almost all major deployments and exercises by the Canadian Armed Forces processing an average of 40 million pounds of freight and 42,000 passengers annually.
In addition to the constant airlift support at 8 Wing, 2 Air Mov Sqn maintains a deployable capability with four, 10-person Mobile Air Movements Sections (MAMS). Deployments in Canada and abroad serve to prepare these teams in preparation for any contingencies or wartime operations.
“I’m excited to return to 2 Air Movements Squadron and 8 Wing/Canadian Forces Base Trenton. The work that is done at 2 Air Movements Squadron and 8 Wing has a significant role in enabling Canadian Armed Forces operations and I’m honoured to have been selected to command this squadron. I intend to empower the members of the squadron to continue to succeed in their mission and strive for excellence. I want to thank Major Mackay for his leadership and dedication to the squadron and its personnel throughout his time as Commanding Officer.”
- Lieutenant-Colonel Dwayne Demers, incoming Commanding Officer, 2 Air Movements Squadron
“My stint with 2 Air Movements Squadron was brief but I have been impressed by what they have accomplished during my short tenure as Commanding Officer. The Squadron proudly supports operations and exercises around the world while continuously living up to our team philosophy of NUNQUAM NON PARATUS – Never Unprepared. I have every confidence that Lieutenant-Colonel Demers will competently guide the Squadron through whatever challenges the future holds.”
