Hospice Quinte is expanding their capacity in the Quinte West area.
During their general meeting on Monday, Hospice Quinte Executive Director Jennifer May-Anderson announced the impending expansion for the Stan Klemencic Care Centre.
“We are normally at full occupancy and we quite often have a waiting list, so it’s clear that there’s a need for our hospice residents in our community,” said May-Anderson. “We usually have about one or two waiting for the resident service but we can have up to four or five at times depending on how things are going.”
The care centre, on Old Highway 2, currently supports six beds. The planned expansion would increase that total to 10.
The expansion will not involve increasing the staffing for the care centre.
During the meeting, Hospice Quinte also welcomed several returning executive board members for a second term, including President Kim Lander, Vice President Stan Dafoe, and Susan Barberstock as Secretary.
Another board member was welcomed to a new position alongside those remaining at their previous post. Breanne Matthews is taking on the role of treasurer.
“I’m very excited. It’s a real priviledge, it’s an organization I feel very strongly about, and the work that they do in our community is so important so it’s important I support the organization in this way,” said Matthews.
The presentation ended with an announcement of this year’s fundraising initiative, with a goal of raising $1,000,000 to support ongoing operations.
