Sandbanks Winery celebrated the opening of its Leash Free Dog Park Sunday and raised some money for the Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward’s Capital Campaign.
The inaugural dog day celebration featuring wine and music raised more than $5,200.
The dog park is a space that will allow dog owners to meet and enjoy a glass of wine while their dogs enjoy fresh air and a fenced green space.
Along with enjoying wine tastings and the dog park, visitors were able to bid on silent auction items donated by local merchants, chat with representatives from Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward about the new shelter and pick up some unique dog-related items from local businesses.
The highlight of the day were appearances by “Make It Right” star Mike Holmes and Canadian classical, rock and pop violinist, Grenville Pinto.
Nicholas Hawryluk of Remax Quinte arranged the celebrity guest appearance and music for the event.
“It truly was a special day at the winery,” commented event organizer Michelle McIntyre, Estate Manager, Sandbanks Winery. “All of us at the estate were excited to do this for our Humane Society. We all love animals and raising funds for our animals in need is something we are happy to do.”
“We can’t say thank you enough to Michelle and her team and to all those who supported this very special event,” said Fred Armitage, a County resident and HSHPE board director. “It is community-driven events, such as this one, that make it possible for HSHPE to continue to care for the animals in need and help them find new forever homes.”
