Bay of Quinte MP Ryan Williams spoke to Prince Edward County Council during their regular council meeting on Tuesday.
Williams gave a presentation touching on various issues affecting county residents.
Williams said that homelessness is one of the largest issues facing Ontario, and that while it is easy to become homeless it is difficult to get out of homelessness.
“One of the big things when we talk about houselessness as it takes one, only one step, to become houseless but it takes three to get out,” said Williams. “So when people find themselves without a home it can be a domestic situation and it can be a missed paycheck, but it’s three to get out.”
Williams says the three steps needed to get out of homelessness are shelter, support with any mental health issues or addictions, and an affordable rent. He commended council for their efforts to increase available low cost housing and address the growing homelessness crisis.
He also briefly touched on other issues, such as upgrades and maintenance for Highway 49 to support the developing electric vehicle industry in Bath, and an ongoing shortage of skilled workers.
Council thanked him for his time, but took no immediate action with the presentation.
