Even through world wars and pandemics, the South Hastings Baseball League has played through 89 consecutive seasons. Tonight (Tuesday) will mark season number 90.
The SHBL will begin their milestone campaign in Melrose with a rematch of last year’s final, featuring the defending champion Bain Excavating Rockies against Uens Pole Line at Jim Uens Field at 7 o’clock.
This year the loop features eight teams playing a 20-game schedule with the exception of the Tyendinaga Mudhens who will play 14.
(Other teams include Maclan Designs, Melrose Farrell Excavating Shamrocks, Parkhurst Tripps Pirates, Read Free Flow Petroleum Young Guns and the expansion Tyendinaga Cardinals.
Ray McGuinness will preside over the South Hastings Baseball League this season as president.
