Some residents in a Belleville neighbourhood aren’t happy with the Salvation Army’s expansion plans at its property on Bridge Street West at north Palmer Road.
The Salvation Army has plans for an expansion of its church and dining hall allowing for a bigger kitchen and dining area, along with space for storage and distribution and a building permit has been applied for.
The plans have not been part of a public process because they are already permitted as the property is zoned Community Facility.
Monday, residents living nearby were going door to door asking for signatures in opposition to the Army’s plans because of worries that there could be noise, vandalism and traffic issues with people gathering to use the facility’s services.
The expansion would allow the Army to offer the same programs, such as meals for the poor and a food bank, as its Pinnacle Street facility which will close once the Bridge Street location expansion is complete.
