In Game 2 of their OJHL playoff series with Cobourg Monday night, the Trenton Golden Hawks had to rally from a four-goal first period deficit, which they did on their way to a 7-5 victory.
Fast forward to Game 3 Wednesday night.
This time the G-Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead and protected it all the way to a 4-2 win over the Cougars.
That gives Trenton a 3-0 stranglehold in their best of seven series.
Matt Cato followed up his Game 2 hat trick with two goals while Jordan Fuller and Adam O’Mara added a goal and assist.
Ben Bonisteel stopped 26 shots.
Game 4 is in Cobourg on Friday night.
Huskies eliminated
It’s the end of the line for the Frankford Huskies.
Connor MacGregor scored the series-clinching goal midway in the second period as the Port Hope Panthers nipped Frankford 2-1 to win the series in five games.
Ben Smith scored the Huskies’ lone goal.
That sets up the Round 2 playoff matchups in the Provincial Junior C League’s Tod Division.
Port Hope will play the first place Napanee Raiders while the Picton Pirates meet the second place Amherstview Jets.
Dates have not been announced yet.
Napanee and Amherstview had a bye in the first round.
