Bianchi wins gold as Batawa Ski Team returns to the slopes

The Batawa Ski Racing Club kicked off the 2023 ski racing season with a bang, posting strong results at all of their competitions throughout Ontario this past weekend.

The U14 team headed north of Barrie to take part in a slalom race featuring a challenging course at The Heights of Horseshoe.

Maya Bianchi posted a fast time to secure a gold.

Peytra Papakiriazis rounded out the top 10, with a strong 7th place.  Jesse Nadolny had a fast race, representing the Club with a solid ninth place finish.

The U12 team travelled to Snow Valley in Barrie for a Slalom event.

Racer Avery Forrest earned the silver in the boys race while Gwenna Cone placed 10th on the women’s side.

The U16/U19 teams were at Mansfield competing in a very large bracket of racers – 100 ladies + 100 men.

The U16 girls carried on their momentum from last season, with four Batawa racers posting times in the top 10 including Rachel Brady in 4th,  Anabella Cowling Zeljkovic in 5th, Julia Isbester 6th and Teagan Moore 7th.

The U19s featured some incredible racing by both the women and men. The women’s team placed four racers in the top 10 with Haleigh MacPherson winning silver, followed by Alexia Bianci in 7th,  Molly Henderson 8th and Holly Liu finishing 9th.

The U19 boys were equally as strong in a very competitive race, and also placed four racers in the top 10, with silver for Ian Isbester and bronze for Spencer Dullard-Krizay to round out the podium.  Jonah Hope was 5th and Bodin MacDonald finished 9th.

The Batawa Ski Team is made up of racers from Belleville, Quinte West, Napanee, Brighton and other areas.

The U12 & U14 teams are on the road again this weekend. The following weekend, the U16/U19s are racing at Blue Mountain.
