Terry Cassidy was passionate about politics and his community, but most of all, he was passionate about people.
The long time community advocate and politician passed away over the weekend. He was 73. Cassidy was suffering from cancer.
The Quinte West – Sidney Ward councillor was married to Joanne Belanger and they had seven children.
In 1991, Cassidy was elected to Sidney Township Council and served two terms. It then became Quinte West Council, where Cassidy served an additional two terms as a Sidney Ward councillor.
Cassidy also ran for mayor of Quinte West in 2014 and as the New Democratic Party candidate in 2015 for the federal election, in the Bay of Quinte riding. He was the NDP Campaign Manager in the 2019 federal election as well.
Other career notes for Cassidy include his time as the Social Services Director for Hastings County and he was a founding partner for Community Partners for Success (CPFS) a nonprofit organization that supports vulnerable individuals and families in our community.
Cassidy was raised in Hamilton and earned his BA and BSW at McMaster University.
