Bay of Quinte MPP Todd Smith spoke to Quinte News, as we continue to tee up the new year.
He says housing and infrastructure will be major provincial priorities for 2022.
Smith is also Ontario’s Energy Minister.
He says the province’s energy supply is diverse.
“We get the bulk of our base load power from nuclear, which makes up 60% of our electricity every day and another 20 to 25 per cent comes from our hydro-electric fleet, that we also have bio-mass facilities, natural gas, wind and solar. So we have a very, very diverse supply in Ontario.”
Smith says there is no doubt the government wants to see a cleaner environment.
He finished by stating that just three per cent of Ontario’s emissions come from the electricity sector.
“Occurring in our transporting fleet and certainly our industrial processes in green steel making and those types of things. My job is to make sure that we have that reliable, affordable, clean, steady supply of electricity for growing businesses in our province and new investments.”
The new build for Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital is something Smith says is a high priority locally this year as well.
