The Quinte West Warming Centre will open for the season on December 15.
The centre will again be located at Trenton United Church on Dundas Street East but this year it will be open nightly from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. offering a safe space for community members to stay warm during the winter months.
Beds and meals are not provided. It will be open nightly until March 31.
Community volunteers support the warming centre’s day to day operations.
“We thank Hastings County and our community partners for working with us to offer this necessary service for our most vulnerable residents,” said Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison. “We’re proud to build upon the success of last year’s efforts by opening the warming centre nightly during the winter months for the 2022-2023 season.”
“Hastings County recognizes the critical service warming rooms serve, for individuals who are vulnerable and may be experiencing homelessness, by providing a safe place to rest, get warm and access facilities and other supports. We are pleased to be able to assist the City of Quinte West again this year and believe the model in place brings together partners who are all dedicated to assisting vulnerable members of our communities,” said Warden Rick Phillips.
