Most thought the race for the mayor’s chair on Belleville council would be a close one.
Most were wrong. Former Mayor Neil Ellis won easily, receiving 9,194 votes compared to current Mayor Mitch Panciuk’s 5,654.
Kyle Thomson finished a distant third with just 668 votes.
Ellis outlines what his priorities will be.
“I think we have to look at infrastructure definitely, we’ve got to look at housing and check around and see what everyone else’s platforms are … sit down as a council and move forward.”
Joining Mayor-Elect Neil Ellis on council will be Tyler Allsopp, Garnet Thompson, Chris Malette, Sean Kelly, Lisa Anne Chatten, and Barbara Enright-Miller, along with Paul Carr and Kathryn Brown from Thurlow Ward.
Meanwhile, outgoing Mayor of Belleville Mitch Panciuk told Quinte News he wouldn’t change a thing and was proud of his council’s accomplishments and of his campaign team.
“In politics the people are always right and I certainly accept their judgement and wish the new Mayor and council all the best. It has been a tremendous privilege for me to serve as Mayor these last 4 years and I’m really proud of what we’ve accomplished.”
The last meeting for the current Belleville council will be November 14.
