Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is prioritizing the bivalent vaccine targeting the Omicron variant of COVID-19 for residents and workers at identified highest-risk facilities.
Public Health will be receiving limited supplies of the adapted version of the Moderna Spikevax COVID-19 vaccine from the province in the coming days.
Due to limited supply other individuals cannot book an appointment in Hastings or Prince Edward for the bivalent vaccine through the provincial booking system however local vaccine clinics will continue to offer the monovalent or original mRNA vaccines for all those eligible.
Officials say as increasing quantities of the bivalent vaccine become available, appointments will be offered at HPEPH clinics, as well as at local pharmacies, for eligible individuals.
Public health is also encouraging residents to get an available booster as soon as possible and not wait for the bivalent version as it will still be several weeks until there is adequate supply for the general population.
Appointments for a monovalent booster at HPEPH vaccine clinics can be booked by visiting hpePublicHealth.ca/vaccine-booking.
