The first phase of a new project that would bring a BMX Pump Track to West Riverside Park is now underway.
A groundbreaking ceremony took place at the site Wednesday morning.
Belleville Mayor Mitch Panciuk, members of council, city staff and those with Transition Bike Parks Inc. took part in the ceremony.
The project was designed through the Parkland and Recreation Master Plan. The City of Belleville says the process is a way to help fill activity gaps in the community.
The first phase of the project is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
Phase 2 will include the construction of beginner and advanced skills centres complete with shelter, utility servicing, lighting, pathways and site amenities.
Phase 3 will involve a risk assessment and perimeter fencing.
More updates on the project can be found at the City of Belleville’s website.
