We have an update on a big new industry coming to Belleville.
Recently Mayor Mitch Panciuk announced that an internationally known transportation, logistics, and warehousing company would be building in the northeast industrial park.
Monday on CJBQ’s Lorne Brooker Show Panciuk said the company, whose operating name has not been revealed, had taken out building permits worth $1.7 million in fees for the city.
“That is equal to the entire annual budget that we were looking to collect in building permit fees in 2022 so we basically doubled our budget. It’s for a one million square foot facility.”
The only existing industrial building of that size in Belleville is the former Sears warehouse.
The construction value of the new project is estimated at $135 million and building on the 110-acre property should begin next year.
While the exact number of jobs expected to be created isn’t known it will be in the hundreds.
