Former NHL defenseman and Belleville Bulls captain Bryan Marchment has passed away at the age of 53.
NHL analyst Kevin Weekes was the first to report the news Wednesday afternoon, sharing via Twitter that the current scout for the San Jose Sharks had passed away in Montreal where he was attending the NHL draft.
Marchment played four seasons with the OHL’s Belleville Bulls from 1985 to 1989 where he amassed 188 points during the regular season and playoffs, most of them assists.
He was drafted 16th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in 1987.
Marchment played 926 games for nine NHL teams over 17 years, including the Jets, Oilers, Sharks, Maple Leafs and Flames.
He retired in 2006.
A cause of death has not been revealed.
