For some people, a motorcycle is just a mode of transportation but for the Pro Rider FMX team, it’s more like a religion.
It was almost an audible sound when the fans’ collective jaws dropped at Brighton Speedway as dirt bikes flew 75 feet through the air backflipping, with fireworks in the night sky.
After more than 30 years, since the last motocross stunt show in Brighton, JR Wazny, Jarrett Pronk and Jeff Brown had fans screaming for more as they delivered two unforgettable all-out adrenaline-packed spectacles presented by Bay Marine.
They kicked it old school performing death-defying freestyle tricks from back in the day and new heart-stopping stunts. Fans crowned Jeff as the winner of the Whip competition that saw all three riders send their bikes flying sideways in the air before nailing perfect landings.
A packed stand was also treated to 91 stock cars dialing in for stellar battles on the ⅓ mile clay oval.
Purchase picks up 5th victory
Wade Purchase was unstoppable on Saturday night as he wheeled his No. 53 to the front of the pack from his eighth starting position in the Bainer’s Oil Gard Canadian Modified 25-lap affair. Purchase used a tacky high side to his advantage as he hunted down leaders No. 1 Shawn Gregory and No. 32 Doug O’Blenis. On lap 17, Purchase snapped up the lead and never looked back on his way to victory lane for the fifth time this season. Gregory picked up a hard-earned second, polesitter No. 40 Ron Wadforth hung on for a well-deserved third, No. 48 Derrick Greig was fourth and No. 2 Lesley Mowat fifth.
Reid rides to winner’s circle again
At the drop of the green flag, Thunderstock No. 85 Austin Reid stomped on the gas snapping up the top spot from fifth on the lead lap. Even after multiple restarts in the Brighton Automotive 20-lap main and an intense battle for first by No. 03 Justin Ramsay and No. 19 Cory White, Reid never lost his cool. Reid rode to victory lane for the second time this season leaving Ramsay to settle for second. No. 0 Tyler French came in third, No. 1 Brock Gregory was fourth and No. 88 Patrick Easton fifth.
Gregory grabs 1st career win
No. 22 Tyson Gregory led the field of 18 Bill’s Johns Mini Stocks to green in the 15-lap feature. The 14-year-old was determined to score his first Mini Stock career win as he held off No. 18 of Carter Rhodes until the last lap of the race when Rhodes attempted to take the lead and spun himself around on the back straight. That left Rhode’s teammate, No. 7 AJ Rinaldi to snag second as Gregory rode to checkers. No. 4 Chris Tufford took home third, No. 25 Lawrence Evenden fourth and No. 72 Austin South was fifth.
Kippen parks it
No. 43 Devon Kipped took the Bill’s Johns Comp 4s to the green flag and never relinquished the point throughout the 15-lap main event. No. 42 JR Aiden Fletcher scored second, No. 15 Josh Bogaard third, No. 44 Tommy Bailey was fourth and No. 20 Cody Sager fifth.
1st career win for Mutch
No. 14 Kevin Mutch ran a flawless race in the 12-lap Quinte Septic Stinger race. He started fifth and rode hard to victory lane securing his first career win Saturday. No. 67 Alex Patrick was second, No. 07 Megan Golden third, No. 79 Robert Jenner fourth and No. 46 Adam Switzer fifth.
Coming up this Saturday night, Brighton Automotive and Mystical Distributing present the Mid-Season Championships. Extended laps in all divisions, greater purse money and fantastic fireworks display to thrill the fans. Front Gates will open at 5:00 PM, Time Trials at 6:00 PM and green flag Racing at 7:00 PM.
