It may only be May but the organizers of the upcoming Log Drivers’ Festival in Marmora have the Christmas and holiday season on their minds.
The family friendly, free admission event is coming up May 21 at Memorial Park and is a fundraiser for Light Up Marmora – an effort to purchase holiday lights for the town.
Organizing committee member Mary Provost says the festival also celebrates the history of the town’s logging industry.
“We’re having axe throwers from Peterborough Axe Throwing Club. We have a lumber Jill and she’s going to be broad-axe hewing a log into a square timber, a chainsaw carver, wood vendors of every description coming and, it promises to be a great day.”
There will also be a duck race at 2:30 with proceeds going to Light Up Marmora.
“The Mighty Duck Race on Crowe River and the Marmora Fire Department will be putting in ducks and tickets are available at our local merchants and also the day of the event.”
Other events include a Paul Bunyan breakfast and a chili supper and open mic night.
The Light Up Marmora initiative is raising $40,000 for holiday lights to line the streets of Highway 7 and the downtown.
Provost hopes they will be able to purchase some lights to go up this year.
