Prince Edward County council is continuing to stand with Ukraine as that country struggles with an invasion by Russia.
Last night, Prince Edward County Council unanimously agreed to keep the Ukrainian flag outside of Shire Hall up until the end of council’s term on November 14, 2022
The motion follows the unanimous vote from March 8 council to raise the Ukrainian flag until April 30 in support of its citizens, as well as a donation of $5,000 to the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal of The Canadian Red Cross.
Prince Edward County will also be presenting at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) national conference in June regarding the municipalities’ continued support for Ukraine.
Mayor Steve Ferguson hopes its presentation will inspire other municipalities to show support.
“They (FCM) would like to make a slight amendment to our resolution to present at their national conference in June and I have absolutely no difficulty in supporting this as it will hopefully lead other municipalities in the country to act as we did and offer support to this beleaguered country.”
