Randy Hillier, an independent member of Ontario’s legislature, has been released from jail with conditions following his surrender to Ottawa police yesterday.
The 64-year-old Kingston area politician who Premier Doug Ford booted from his Conservative caucus in 2019 faces nine charges related to his involvement in the protest that seized the core of the national capital last month.
Among the charges laid against Hillier are two counts of obstructing or resisting a public officer, and three counts of counselling an uncommitted indictable offence.
According to the CBC the conditions of his release include not being in and around downtown Ottawa and not communicating with Freedom Convoy organizers.
He is also unable to post on social media about the “Freedom Convoy” and anti-vaccine or mask mandates.
The Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP put up $10,000 against his bail while a surety offered $25,000.
