A local man who spent three weeks in Ottawa as part of the truckers convoy is back home in Picton.
Lloyd Crowe says he returned home yesterday (Saturday) after police began dismantling the protest at Parliament Hill.
He said on Saturday morning, he along with a group of truckers agreed to start backing out and heading home, which was not an easy feat with a 53′ trailer. His vehicle was parked a few blocks away from where police began to push back crowds.
“When we seen what was happening up on Wellington Street, we all agreed that’s not us, that’s not who we are, pushing and shoving and confronting police. We just felt it was time.”
He said that was when he knew the protest was no longer peaceful and “that wasn’t our way, was never intended to be our way.”
It took all morning for him to get his truck and trailer out of the downtown core before he could begin making his way home he stated.
Crowe said for the most part, he met some very lovely people while up in Ottawa and made some lifelong friends from across Canada.
He says he felt he was up there for the right reasons.
“As a Christian, I thought I was within my duty and rights to stand up against what I thought was wrong and standing up for people that want to work and travel and that have been fired. And all along, for two years now I’ve been wanting to do something.”
He says he is praying for a peaceful victory or solution to all of this.
