United Way Hastings & Prince Edward’s Women United, in partnership with the Quinte Anti–Human Trafficking
Coalition, launches a new awareness campaign focusing on sex trafficking in the local community.
“We have learned about the prevalence of human trafficking in our region and are taking action to educate parents,
caregivers, youth and community leaders. We all need to learn the signs and know where to reach out for help if
someone needs it,” says Liz Knuude, Women United Champion.
The topic of human trafficking has been an area of interest to Women United since its inaugural meeting in 2019.
Beginning February 15, Women United and Quinte Anti–Human trafficking Coalition will partner on a month long
campaign to raise awareness and provide education on the issue of human trafficking in Hastings & Prince Edward
Counties.
The campaign will bookend National Human Trafficking Awareness Day on Feb 22 and is comprised of a series of
thought provoking visuals that will compel viewers to learn more. Posters will be displayed in local high schools, in city buses and on bus stops in Belleville as well as on a digital billboard. A heavy social media presence as well as vignettes throughout businesses across the region will ensure as many people as possible are exposed to the awareness campaign.
A digital tool kit is also available on the United Way website for anyone to access which includes quick links to all
emergency resources, places to go for more information, as well as posters for downloading and printing.
Youth2Youth HPE will be hosting a live Q&A session between local youth and Executive Director of Three Oaks Foundation, Sandy Watson–Moyles. You can register to take part here.
