A beloved piece of the local landscape is expected to get approved for some new signage Monday.
At Monday’s Quinte West council meeting council will consider a staff report regarding new signage for the Highway of Heroes.
Since 2006, when the first Canadian soldier was killed in Afghanistan, repatriation ceremonies at CFB Trenton have been tradition.
As such, the stretch of the 401 which brought repatriated soldiers from CFB Trenton to Toronto was dubbed the Highway of Heroes and signs were put up to identify it at Hamilton Road and Sidney Street in Quinte West.
The report says it was brought to the attention of Quinte West staff that the signage was in need of replacing and staff began consulting with various agencies including the MTO and the public affairs office at 8 Wing CFB Trenton who suggested that the signs be bilingual.
After receiving approval from the Royal Canadian Legion to use the poppy on the signs a concept was designed and submitted to the Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee.
The projected cost of the signs is $3,360.
Council will vote on the matter at its meeting Monday.
