The Belleville Senators, in the midst of a four-game winning streak, will welcome two and possibly three players to their lineup from the parent Ottawa Senators.
Goaltender Matt Murray cleared waivers Sunday afternoon and will join the B-Sens on Monday.
This season, Murray has struggled with injuries and illness including COVID.
In his last start Wednesday against the San Jose Shark, Murray allowed four goals on 27 shots. He did not dress for the Senators’ last two games in Anaheim and Los Angeles.
Murray is 0-5 with a 3.26 goals against average and an .890 save percentage this year.
Ottawa Head Coach D.J. Smith hopes Murray will be able to rediscover his game while in Belleville and return to the NHL team in the next six weeks.
He is in the second year of a four-year contract paying him an average of $6.5 million US per season. Murray will continue to collect his NHL salary while playing in Belleville.
B-Sens Coach Troy Mann says a decision on whether Murray will play in Utica on Wednesday night has not been made yet.
Winger Parker Kelly will also rejoin Belleville from Ottawa. Kelly played 11 games with Ottawa this season scoring a goal and assist. In five games with Belleville he scored a goal with three assists.
Ottawa has also placed forward Logan Shaw on waivers. If unclaimed by 2 p.m. Monday afternoon he will join Belleville where he will be named captain. The B-Sens have not had a captain this season.
Shaw has played 16 games with Ottawa this season scoring one goal and two assists.
In 24 games with Belleville last season Shaw scored six goals and nine assists.
Belleville has won four in a row and seven of their last nine. They play first place Utica Comets (New Jersey Devils) on Wednesday night (6:50 on CJBQ) then host the Manitoba Moose (Winnipeg Jets) Saturday night at 7:05 and Sunday afternoon at 3:05 at the CAA Arena.
