“This incredible organization has done so much to do critical outreach to ensure that people across the entire region have a place either to take their pet or to adopt one. And, I have to say, as Minister Smith has said, he and I are very fortunate to have adopted pets from here.”
MacLeod adopted a cat from the local Humane Society while touring their current facility on Avonlough Road a few months ago.
The cat’s name is Walter.
“This will not only be used for our programming but also as a rental facility, well, for meetings, for gatherings, for parties, children’s birthday parties. We’ve also got a kitchen, a catering kitchen and another breakout room that people can rent as well and that we can also use.”
“The one unusual thing about humane societies is there’s no one place within the government of Ontario to get funding. And we looked everywhere. I looked under every rock. And, thankfully Minister MacLeod has made it happen.”
This latest cash infusion lifts the It Takes Heart Capital Campaign to about 75 per cent of its $5 million dollar goal for the new facility.Officials expect it to be ready in June 2022.
