The Wellington Dukes started off the new season on the right foot with a cool 4-1 win over the Mississauga Chargers in Wellington Friday night.
The Dukes jumped out to an early lead with forward Barret Joynt scoring just 1:45 into the first period with the lone assist coming from former Quinte Red Devil Corbin Roach.
Just over ten minutes later they would widen the gap to 2-0 with a goal from Ethan Quick, his first in the OJHL.
Late in the second period Dukes forward Harrison Ballard notched his first OJHL goal as well to bring the lead to 3-0.
A cross checking penalty on Wellington’s Aaron Brown at the end of the second meant the Chargers started the third frame on the power play.
With seconds left on the man advantage, Mississauga forward Nicholas Cordeiro scored what would end up being the lone Chargers goal in the game.
Wellington added a power play marker of their own late in the third when Joynt scored his second of the game after the Chargers’ Matthew DiCosola took a cross checking penalty.
Wellington goaltender Ethan Morrow held steady all night stopping 28 of 29 shots faced all night to notch his first career OJHL win while the Dukes fired a whopping 40 shots on Mississauga goalie Julian Molinaro.
Joynt led the way for Wellington notching four points, to goals and two assists, with newcomer Ethan Quick behind him with one goal and one assist for two points.
The Dukes are back in action on Saturday against Cobourg on the road at 7 p.m.
