Belleville has made its case for another entrance into the city from Highway 401.
The city’s delegation made its case for a new access road to Belleville at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario this week.
Mayor Mitch Panciuk tells Quinte News, “The big issue again is the Belleville east arterial road which the city believes is the number one issue for the future growth of the city.
The delegation raised the matter with Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney.
“The Northeast Industrial Park is expanding and we need to move an exit farther to the east, as well as there are safety concerns for Cannifton Road, and having transport trucks continue to use that getting into the park.”
Panciuk says Minister Mulroney was asked to visit Belleville to see the problem for herself and she’s expected to do that within the next two months.
The mayor said the delegation also discussed with Ministry of Health officials issues around health care.
He added, “We also proposed a new trial concept for a satellite nurse practitioner-led clinic north of the 401 in Thurlow Ward. Currently that’s about a third of the city and there are no health care offerings, general health care offerings.”
“This is an idea that would give 30,200 residents some primary care deal, with folks particularly in areas north of the 401.”
