A former member of the Belleville Senators is facing sexual assault charges in connection with incidents that allegedly occurred while he was playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Gabriel Gagne, a second round draft pick of the Ottawa Senators in 2015, was charged in two separate incidents from 2016 during which time he played for Shawinigan.
One of the charges allegedly involved a victim who was under the age of 16 at the time.
The 24-year-old Gagne made his first court appearance in connection with the charges this week.
Gagne played more than 100 games with the Binghamton and Belleville Senators between 2016 and 2019.
He also spent time with several other teams in the AHL and ECHL, most recently Rockford, and has signed a contract to play the upcoming season in Norway.
