Belleville’s planning committee could begin the process of allowing development to start on the former Ben Bleecker property in the west end on Tuesday.
City staff are recommending that the committee approve a rezoning to allow for the construction of a grocery store and another building “with complementary commercial uses” on the southern portion at 40 Yeomans Street.
The land is currently zoned as “community facility land use” and would have to be rezoned as “commercial land use”, along with other stipulations including an environmental assessment, landscape plan, storm management plan and others.
A hold would also be placed on the property until other conditions are met by the developer, ahead of any building being done.
While there have been public concerns about traffic, access to the property, environmental issues and more, city staff see no issues with the proposal, which would allow for access to the property off both Bridge Street West and Sidney Street.
You can get much more information on the rezoning application by clicking here.
A separate plan will also be considered to allow two apartment buildings and townhouses on the northern portion of the property.
The planning committee meets on Tuesday afternoon.
