Belleville Police are warning residents about a phone scam that seems to be coming from a BPS phone line.
The scammers claim to be a member of the police service, or RCMP, and tell the victim that a family member has been arrested, and they need to send a large amount of money to bail that person out.
Investigators say, in addition to that scam, the Canada Revenue Agency scam is still going on with people being told to send iTunes or Google gift cards to cover back taxes owed.
Police say the CRA never makes requests like that and is urging people to be cautious with who they deal with over the phone.
