An anti-COVID-19 rally scheduled for the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory this coming weekend has been cancelled after community backlash.
In a Facebook post, Tyendinaga Police Chief Jason Brant says the Road To Freedom Across Canada Motorcade was to feature anti-mask and anti-lockdown advocates that he says “do not align with the Indigenous values of our community” and was not sanctioned by anyone on the Territory.
Brant says the police service was able to connect with organizers who have said they no longer plan to stage the event.
He added that the field where the rally was to take place is being blocked off and police will be on hand throughout the day just in case, though the group has said it plans to hold its event elsewhere.
