Loyalist College’s new Business – Finance and Analytics Ontario college diploma program responds to a pressing demand for trained graduates who can implement data-driven strategies in the business and finance sectors.
In this two-year program, students learn how to harness data science to generate growth, forecast market trends and inform financial decisions; essential skills that are critical to the digitization of commerce and banking in the Bay of Quinte region and beyond.
“In our highly interconnected and digitized world, in which communication and commerce are instantaneously conducted, enhanced data analytics has the power to transform and sustain main street businesses in highly competitive markets,” said Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan, Loyalist College President and CEO. “Graduates of the College’s Business – Finance and Analytics program will have their knowledge and skills developed from the ground up, equipped with techniques for problem-solving and innovation informed by the latest developments in big data, analytics and emerging technologies.”
Beginning in Fall 2021, students will be taught by industry-experienced faculty from the fields of business, technology, finance and analytics to assess the impact of economic variables, legislation and ethics on business and financial operations within a Canadian context.
In addition to key skills such as processing and maintaining financial records, generating reports, developing plans and implementing marketing strategies, graduates of the program will emerge with the knowledge to scrape and mine financial data; with experience using programming languages such as Python and R Script; and with the ability to pitch new product ideas based on data analysis that will enhance the user experience of financial products. Students in the fourth semester of the program will also have the opportunity to work on an applied project alongside industry or community partners in finance or analytics.
