The Harold Quarry north of the village of Stirling should soon be open for four hours a week for residents to draw water.
Monday night Stirling-Rawdon council passed a motion allowing staff to open the fenced off quarry on Tuesdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Friday mornings from 8 until 10 for the months of July and August.
The quarry would be open for water-taking only, not swimming, and waivers would have to be signed by those entering.
It will take up to two weeks to have staff prepare for the quarry’s opening.
Meanwhile council is waiting for an insurance risk assessor’s report on options to allow swimming at the quarry.
