After decades of inactivity, junior hockey will return to Frankford this season.
The Ontario Hockey Association has approved the re-birth of the Frankford Huskies. They will play in the Tod Division of the Provincial Junior “C” Hockey League where they join the Picton Pirates, Napanee Raiders, and Campbellford Rebels among others.
The Huskies were part of the Junior “C” loop in the 70’s and 80’s.
The team will be led by a mostly local ownership group headed by president John McDonald. McDonald has been a long time executive with the Junior “A” Trenton Golden Hawks. He says their main goal is to ice a competitive team in their inaugural season. McDonald finished by saying, “Details on the Hockey Operations team, sponsorship, tickets, and a roster will be announced in the coming weeks.”
Vice-President Scott Scaletta says, “The ownership group is made up of myself (Trenton, ON), Frank Robinson (Whitby, ON), John McDonald (Trenton, ON), Ken Shaw (Campbellford, ON), Ian Green (Port Hope, ON), and Tim Durkin (Bayside, ON). We will be working hard over the coming months to acquire players, name a Hockey Operations Staff, and prepare for the season ahead.”
The Huslies are working with the City of Quinte West to make upgrades to the Frankford arena.
Frankford is the second new team in the area this fall. The Tweed Oil Kings is the newest franchise in the Eastern Ontario Super Hockey League.
