Belleville’s Downtown District could be featuring new events and shopping opportunities during the Christmas period this year.
The City’s Economic and Destination Development Committee is recommending council approve a Holiday Market special event at a cost of $60,000.
It’s proposed that the money come from the Municipal Accommodations Tax account.
The Holiday Market would be held three or four days a week from mid-November to mid-December, the same time as the Downtown District BIA holds its Enchanted event.
Details haven’t been worked out but anywhere from five to ten decorated structures would be placed in the downtown and vendors would be expected to provide products or services complementary to the holiday theme.
Council will make a decision on the recommendation soon.
