As part of the plan to encourage people to get outside as we recover from the pandemic, the Ontario government is providing free day-use permits at more than 100 provincial parks.
The day-use permits will be available for use at 115 provincial parks from Monday to Thursday until September 2.
Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks Jeff Yurek says spending time in nature can have many positive benefits on physical and mental health as we recover from the impacts of COVID-19.
And in a measure to prevent overcrowding, starting June 7, visitors will be able to obtain a daily vehicle permit up to five days in advance for 17 provincial parks.
This will allow people to plan ahead and have guaranteed access.
Local residents may be happy to see three area parks on that list – Sandbanks and North Beach in Prince Edward County and Presqu’ile Provincial Park in Brighton.
As of June 7, visitors can check daily vehicle permit availability for specific parks and dates on the reservations website.
Overnight stays in Ontario Parks will resume when the province reaches Step One of the Roadmap to Reopen, currently targeted for June 14.
The following is a release from Prince Edward County regarding the provincial announcement:
