The American Hockey League has announced its plans for playoffs, or lack thereof, with about a month left to go in the pandemic-shortened season.
In a press release on Thursday the league confirmed there will be no traditional Calder Cup Playoffs and that only the Pacific Division will hold a more conventional type of playoff tournament to determine a division winner.
The other four divisions, including the Canadian Division, will determine a winner based on points percentage at the end of the season.
The league also announced it plans to begin the 2021/22 season on October 15, with all 31 teams expected to be active again.
The 2021/22 regular season is scheduled to end on April 24 of next year.
