Sources say Alymer Police have laid a Part 3 Summons against Hastings Lennox and Addington MP Derek Sloan, and Lanark Frontenac Kingston MPP Randy Hillier, among others, following a church service Sunday.
Quinte News has learned the police service has laid charges under the Reopening Ontario Act against a 36-year-old Stirling man, and a 63-year-old Perth man. They have not released the names of the individuals.
Sloan, who is 36, lives in Stirling-Rawdon, and Hillier who is 63 and from Perth, were two of the speakers at the Church of God in Alymer.
Hillier tells Quinte News he has received summonses for other events in Peterborough and at Queen’s Park. Hillier has a court date for Tuesday, April 27.
Penalties under a Part 3 Summons in Section 7.0.2 sees fines starting at $10,000, with a maximum of $100,000 and up to one year in prison. Hillier adds he was told that the pastor at the Church of God has also received a summons, and penalties could be even more strict.
Estimates have about 200 cars in the parking lot Sunday. Many people inside on a live stream were seen not wearing masks or practising physical distancing. Current lockdown rules have a cap of 10 people inside at religious services. All those who were charged under the act have court dates in June.
Quinte News also chatted with Belleville Police Chief Mike Callaghan about the April 16 anti-lockdown rally. Callaghan says they are pursuing charges under the Reopening Ontario Act. Anyone in attendance not following the guidelines is subject to a summons or fine.
Sloan issued the following statement to Quinte News this afternoon:
