A local MP, and regional MPP attended a church service Sunday, where police say they will be laying charges.
The Church of God in Aylmer near London held an in-person service Sunday, which was live-streamed. It showed some in attendance not wearing masks or following physical distancing.
Current protocol has religious services limited to 10 people, who must follow mask and distancing protocols.
Hastings-Lennox and Addington Independent MP Derek Sloan was there.
“I feel blessed and honoured to be here and I think that we are honouring God and our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ by being here today. There is no other foundation on which we can build, than Jesus Christ our rock, our Lord and our Saviour. God bless you and God bless Canada.”
Sloan also attended an anti-lockdown rally in Stratford, and the Barrie Freedom Rally over the weekend.
“There’s many churches across the province that are open to full capacity. Some have like 1,000 members that are attending weekly. They haven’t had a single case of COVID. This isn’t just about church, I am against the lockdowns, there’s no evidence to support them.”
Aylmer police Chief Zvonko Horvat told CBC that they will be proceeding with charges against people, but it is not known who that will be.
Chief Horvat tells Quinte News that Sloan is a Person of Interest in the investigation, and he will know later this week what charges/tickets could be issued.
Belleville Police meantime say they are pursuing charges for an anti-lockdown rally April 16 at West Zwick’s Park. Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP Randy Hillier was a guest speaker at that rally, that also included a march to city hall.
Organizers of larger events during the current lockdown can be charged, and those in attendance can be ticketed.
