Ontario’s Minister of Education Stephen Lecce has announced that parents will begin receiving financial relief as early as Monday.
In a statement released Sunday, Lecce said that parents who have children up to grade 12 age, or up to 21 years old for children and youth with special needs, will begin to receive payments through the Ontario COVID–19 Child Benefit.
Lecce also announced in the statement that the payments will be doubled to $400 per child and $500 for children with special needs up to 21 years old.
Anybody who has already received payment through the Support for Learners in 2020 will not need to re-apply and will automatically receive the payments through the new Ontario COVID-19 Child Benefit.
Anyone who did not apply for the Support for Learners funding can apply for the Ontario COVID-19 Child Benefit beginning May 3 with a closing date of May 17.
