The door has been opened for the possibility for mobile restaurants at Wellington Beach.
At Wednesday’s Prince Edward County planning meeting, council approved by-law changes that would allow a pilot program for food trucks at the beach to move ahead.
The pilot project would allow for mobile restaurants to be at Wellington Beach to provide refreshments and food, possibly in the summer of 2021.
The project has an end date of 2022 to accommodate possible COVID-19 related delays.
One local hospitality worker attended the meeting virtually to contest the matter, saying that it would be unfair to local restaurant owners struggling throughout the pandemic.
County staff noted that the approval of the by-law doesn’t necessarily mean that the pilot project is moving forward but gives the county the option to do so, if possible, with summer approaching quickly.
Councillors voted on and approved the zoning by-law change.
