The City of Belleville is looking to alleviate some parking issues in the neighbourhood near Belleville General Hospital, by launching a pilot program to give residents who live there an option to parking permits.
The area in question includes First Street to Sixth Street, North Street and Bay Drive, which are constantly full of vehicles, as drivers try to avoid having to pay for parking in the hospital’s lots.
If approved, residents could buy one permit per address that would allow them to avoid time of use restrictions in the neighbourhood, however overnight parking would still be prohibited.
City staff say there is no cost to get a permit while the pilot project is in place and they will reevaluate once it’s complete.
