Quinte West’s Corporate Finance Committee is hoping city council will be in favour of more financial support for the Quinte West YMCA.
As it has to other organizations, the COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc with the Y’s finances.
Membership has dropped by 50% percent since the pandemic began and the YMCA has already had to dip into its reserves to the tune of $1.5 million to keep the facility open.
Wednesday night the committee voted that council continue to support the Y by paying its utility bills for the rest of the year, estimated to be around $50,000 a month.
It’s expected the city would use money left from COVID funding provided by the federal and provincial governments.
