The process toward making the core of the village of Wellington in Prince Edward County a heritage district continues.
A draft plan of a consulting company’s heritage conservation district study for Wellington is finished and now open to comments from the public.
The consultants have found Wellington’s downtown area meets the province’s criteria for protection as a Heritage Conservation District, having been developed over a period of almost 200 years.
In a heritage district, renovations and new construction must meet strict guidelines so as to not harm the overall character of the neighbourhood.
A public meeting on the issue is scheduled for April 29.
