Prince Edward County has approved the addition of a County Road 49 Millennium Trail launch point pending the approval of federal funding.
At last Tuesday’s meeting councillors approved the plans which hinge on securing funding through the federal government’s Healthy Communities Initiative which would cover the entire $39,830 price tag. The Healthy Communities Initiative is a $31 million federal grant stream to transform public spaces in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The proposed launch point at County Road 49 has been in talks since 2019.
The launch point would be just east of Picton on County Road 49 and would feature a similar layout to those at Station Road in Hillier and Salem Road in Consecon. This includes parking, kiosk with benches and information, picnic table, garbage cans, pump-out toilet and a bicycle repair stand.
The funding application is being submitted by the Community Services, Programs and Initiatives Department.
