Prince Edward County council is proposing a new bulk water purchase agreement with the City of Belleville.
Since 1988 the county has been buying bulk water from the city of Belleville for the Rossmore area and in 2006 expanded the purchase of water from Belleville to cover the Fenwood area.
Since the expansion to Fenwood the county has taken over the billing and administration for the water services, with the City of Belleville now just providing the water.
County council is requesting a reduction on the cost of the bulk water to better match other purchasers and has drafted a new agreement. In the proposed agreement, the county is seeking a lower rate, similar to what they pay the City of Quinte West to provide water to Carrying Place.
The current agreement expires March 31, 2021.
